What’s Blooming in Los Angeles
On florals and the feeling of a new season
Happy Easter, everyone! It’s finally spring in LA and the city is in full bloom — every jacaranda tree and magnolia bush in Silver Lake is fragrant, floral and fully in blossom. So much so that, walking from my parking spot down to Seco, I passed no fewer than three gorgeous bushes and thought: I should bring my shears. Thankfully I didn’t.
The bushes remain untouched. For now.

Spring always brings feelings of excitement, novelty and freshness. Yet Salone is my official seasonal marker, witnessing Milan come alive after a long winter is a distinct celebration of its own. I have so many exciting things to share in the upcoming month, but first, let’s catch-up.

Left: Stuffed easter eggs for a treasure hunt and a pair of Sezane Low Amelié ballerinas Right: Trying on the summer collection at Ciao Lucia’s new store in Venice

Left. At the local flower mart wearing J.Crew’s striped rollneck sweater. Right. Lovely branches at Dries Van Noten

Last week my friends behind Basic.Space launched their annual fair at Pacific Design Center. Bonnie of HURS media curated an exhibition titled ‘A Woman’s Work’ featuring female designers and artists who’ve left their mark. The show included a curation of pieces such at Orit Elhanati’s cutlery that borders as fine jewelry, Sabine Marcelis serene sculptures and Charlotte Perriand’s timeless furniture. Somehow, a rumor circulated at the fair that an Hermès leather necklace on display had once been mine. This is the kind of chic gossip I have absolutely no interest in correcting.

Wearing. Faithfull the Brand’s Esenia dress to a dinner under the stars with Calico Wallpaper at the Lautner Harpel House. How lucky are we to call this place home?
The new extension of Spencer’s Spa in West Hollywood.
I keep telling anyone with ears that LA is in its design era. The new places opening up are thoughtfully leaning into decoration and design. It’s great for the city, and for the designers, gallerists and florists who live, work, and beautify LA. Our stock is up.

Left. Sunday brunch wearing Prada sunglasses, Baum und Pferdgarten Batina jacket, Gil Rodriguez Top and Capri Leggings and Vtg Manolo Blahnik Right. Few desserts have had the effect on me than the brown butter madeleines at Juliet

Chanel recently sent a capsule of their community’s most loved formulas. It came in a gorgeous lacquered kit and caboodle with all of the essentials — Les 4 Ombres, Lip and Cheek Balm, and Volume de Chanel, to name a few. C’est tres gentil.

Left: Seco’s latest dessert — a marbled chocolate cake with berry compote and whipped mascarpone. Right. Signs of spring and my first foray into floral arrangements. Please be kind, I hope to get better over time.
